in the maggie chapter it was starting to get tedious how all the conversations are these hostile negotiations, counting questions with johannes, trying to figure out what sandra’s manipulating her into, etc. One thing I liked about Pact relative to Worm is that a lot of the interactions are friendly, which tbh just makes them shorter.
like don’t these people ever just chill…
oh I was thinking about this cause of the astrologer! It seems like everyone in Toronto has schemes and plots but she’s apparently just lonely and horny. Which is a relief to read in a way. Like don’t any of these people want to have like human connections just for the sake of them, don’t they have some innate drive to talk to people independent of furthering a specific scheme… the astrologer does!
that reminds me of what i said about Loup in Gunnerkrigg Court, the way he thinks of himself as a schemer when really he’s lonely, and he seems to make up schemes to manipulate his friends just as an excuse to hang out with them, which is cute
